UK Public Against Reduction In International Student Places

UK Public Against Reduction In International Student Places: Research published recently, carried out for the British Future Thinktank and Universities UK has found that the majority of the UK public are against universities cutting down on the number of international students they allow in to British Universities. This is true even if that stance would limit the Government’s overall ability to limit immigration at an overall level. Among Conservative voters, this figure rises to 66% – from 59% of the UK as a whole.

Only one fifth of voters suggested that the number of foreign students allowed to attend UK universities should be limited.

In addition, the findings also show that three quarters of respondents felt that foreign students should be allowed to remain in Britain and work for ‘at least a period of time’ after graduating.

Three fifths (61%) stated that they felt British universities would have less money to invest in top-quality facilities and teaching with the fees paid by international students – which are normally higher than those paid by British students, particularly for courses such as medicine and MBAs. Only seven percent disagreed with that statement.
