VoicED Judges UK Blog Awards – Education Category

VoicED Judges UK Blog Awards – Education Category:  We are very pleased to say that on Friday April 25th we were invited to present the awards for the education category of this year’s National UK Blog Awards. The night was hosted at the fantastic Grange St. Paul’s Hotel, a stone’s throw from the cathedral itself.

Along with Elliot Simmonds, Panel Manager for VoicED, the education category was also judged by Julian Stanley, the Group CEO of Teacher Support Network and Recourse – two charities which support teachers and education professionals in the work place.

The awards were made based on an initial public vote, which determined a short list – more than 16,000 votes were cast on over 1,000 blogs. This list was then considered by both judges and the final decision was made based on their combined scores. Winners were chosen from both individual and organisational applicants.

The organisational winner in the education category was The Digital Marketing Blog from the University of Bedfordshire – a blog written and managed by the university’s Digital Marketing Manager, Paul Fryers. Paul attended on the night and collected his award on stage, and later stayed for a more considered photograph with both judges.

Unfortunately, the individual award winner, David Didau of The Learning Spy blog, could not attend the event on the night (although his award will be forwarded on!)

Speaking about the UK Blog Awards, Elliot Simmonds had the following to say:

“The Blog Awards were fantastically organised throughout, and I am incredibly privileged to have been asked to judge such a prestigious event. The sheer number of entries and the breadth of individuals and organisations involved is a testament to the value that blogging can have in both the education sector and in the wider economy.

“I felt particularly strongly that VoicED should be involved in this event as giving teachers and education professionals an opportunity to express their opinions is what we do every day, so it made sense to support that idea in a different form. A huge congratulations to everyone who entered, those nominated and commended, and of course to David and Paul who were the winners in the education category.”

The National UK Blog Awards is running a one-day Blogging Expo in October 2014 for bloggers of all abilities. The day will consist of workshops and expert-led Q&As. For further details, keep an eye on www.blogawardsuk.co.uk over the coming weeks.
