The club, which achieved FA Charter Standard in 2010, and Charter Standard Community Club Status in 2014, operates on an open-membership scheme and encourages players from across Sheffield, Barnsley an Rotherham to take part.

According to FIFA’s document detailing 2015-18 plans for developing women’s football, the sport has ‘flourished in recent years’ and the 2015 Women’s World Cup will have 24 teams, increasing from 16 in recent years. Across the world, 29 million girls and women play football.

Recent articles published on the VoicED blog have pointed to girls and young women experiencing gender stereotyping in school and feeling that sexism affects ‘most aspects of their lives’.

We believe that through helping develop women’s sport, we can help improve education and break down barriers – young female players will, we hope, be more healthy and more confident in their day to day lives.
